Divide each term by that common factor to find what stays inside the bracket.

Line up variables vertically (x under x, y under y) if using elimination.
Multiply one entire equation by a constant to get matching coefficients for one variable.
Add or subtract the equations to eliminate that variable entirely.
Solve for the remaining variable, then substitute it back into the easiest original equation.

Draw a right-angled triangle underneath the line segment.
Count the horizontal run (Δ x) and vertical rise (Δ y).
Apply Pythagoras (c² = a² + b²) to find the distance (hypotenuse).
Average the coordinates to find the midpoint
