Jaya Kava will be serving non-alcoholic herbal elixirs and vegan treats all night long.
THE MAIN ACT: Youba the Kora Player
The kora, or a type of harp made from a calabash gourd, was commissioned by West African kings to recount songs of folklore and love.
Youba fluently plays this traditional Mandinka and Wolof music as well as a modern style made up of jazz, reggae, and Afro beats. His lilting sound and expansive range comes from a lifelong exposure to a rich musical diversity. His father is Issa Cissokho, the saxophone player for the legendary world music group Orchestra Baobab, which blended Latin and Caribbean music with West African styles.
Youba has performed solo all over Africa, Europe, and the United States in cities such as Paris, New York, and Dakar. He also joined Artist-In-Residence and LINES Ballet dancer Adji Cissoko on Center Stage at the Vail Dance Festival and frequently accompanies the Temple University ballet classes and orchestras. Youba has played at venues such as The Philadelphia Art Museum and World Cafe Live as well as on the main stages at Harmonic Earth Festival, Cisko Centre, and Odunde Festival, the largest African American street festival in the U.S. with over 500,000 attendees.

He brings his whole self to you, from the silly to the sublime -- get excited!
SONG CIRLCE : Faye Adinda
Tap into the magic of singing in community with "Singing in Love" festival co-founder Faye Ma! Singing sacred songs together can be an unbelievably ecstatic experience of healing and belonging. In this Song Circle, we will learn easy-to-memorize songs that we sing as a group. Certain songs will even have harmonies, multiple parts, and activities that go along with them! And guess what..? You don’t have to be an experienced singer at all!
This is a safe space to practice opening your voice in a non-judgmental, supportive and loving group container, while singing songs that remind us of our deepest truths. This song circle will be led by Faye Adinda, a singer/songwriter/musician and song leader. She is passionate in helping people open their voices, find self-empowerment and healing through song, and step into their unique expressions. Faye writes and carries songs based in positive affirmations, and specializes in songs of remembrance, self-love & acceptance, and community connection. www.fayeadinda.com
