Description

We know that right now the future’s looking uncertain - the price of rent and groceries, job opportunities, disjointed communities, looming climate catastrophe…

Some good news? The way we do food can be the fix to many of those. And right now, big calls are being made on the ‘how’ - what we eat, how it’s grown, how we can make sure there’s enough to go around, and what ends up in schools, hospitals, stadiums and kitchens across South East Queensland.

We want to make sure the people who’ll live with it the longest have a say - that we’re not leaving it up to government meetings and billion dollar companies.

So this year, SEQ Food Summit’s People’s Day is dedicated to the next generation of our food system. Hosted by Morag Gamble and Costa Georgiadis, this is a high-energy, collaborative community workshop giving voice and resources to the people who have the most skin in the game - young people and the communities around them. This is a chance to get involved and make sure those decisions aren’t just made in boardrooms.

We can create a healthier, wilder, kinder food system within 10 years if it is valued and prioritised. What can we do together to amplify and myceliate this change - for a vibrant local food culture that nourishes communities, the wellbeing of people and place, biodiversity, living soils and livelihoods? And if your ideas could be heard clearly by industry and policy makers, what would you say?

What’s actually happening?

We don’t do those “write your ideas on a sticky note and never hear about them again” situations.

Together, we’ll:

  • imagine what a better food future could look like

  • brainstorm bold projects and ideas for our schools, unis and communities

  • identify what we want decision-makers, industry leaders and policymakers to hear loud and clear.

What really makes this different, is that next the key ideas and concerns you raise throughout the day will feed directly into Industry Day and Policy Day discussions later in the summit -  helping shape conversations with business and government.

Who’s this for?

We’re especially keen for young people aged 15-25 to join us, but the people who are here to support them are welcome too (parents, coaches, teachers, community orgs - we're looking at you).

Keen?

Whether you’re passionate about food, climate, farming, or health, nervous about the world you’re inheriting or looking for ways to get involved in your community, this is a space to connect, contribute and get inspired. Bring those ideas, we’re ready.

Stick around - free ticket to Food & Film Night

Join us for a community food & film night, kicking off afterward. Food trucks, bar open, and a series of short films dedicated to food and culture. Free entry with your workshop ticket!

About SEQ Food Summit

SEQ Food Summit is 3 days to rethink and build a resilient, thriving food system for the communities and land of South East Queensland. The way we do food shapes the region we become - so we bring together everyone from parents to producers, chefs to chief executives, to collaborate, problem solve, and provide healthy, sustainable, fair food to everyone.
