Born in the southern United States and now a resident of the Wairarapa, Derrick Sims is a filmmaker in every sense - a producer, writer, director, cinematographer and editor, whose films have been showcased on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and more.
From initial idea to getting the final shot in the can, this workshop breaks down Derrick’s film-making journey for his latest, a television pilot called Shadow of the Deathbird. The workshop will cover story development, budgeting, funding options, casting, gearing, and crewing up. Deathbird will also be screened at the workshop. Perfect for filmmakers ready to bring their vision to life.
Shadow of the Deathbird : Set in the late 1980s, Shadow of the Deathbird centres around a child filmmaker who is haunted by a supernatural creature hell-bent on destroying her masterpiece.
When you purchase your ticket for the workshop it also covers attending the screening at 6pm, Cineverse (Hastings) for a showing of Derrick's feature directorial debut Come Morning. A Q&A will follow.
