A Tour of Local Sacred Sites (Bus Trip)
Event description
Come and join us for a free, family-friendly bus trip to four sacred sites in Greater Bendigo and learn about Greater Bendigo’s religious diversity. This is an exciting opportunity for a family outing where you can have fun and learn about different faith groups that make Bendigo home. Free vegetarian lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.
The bus trip includes tours of the following sites:
- Bendigo Islamic Community Centre (local mosque)
- Karen Culture and Social Support Foundation (Karen Buddhist Monastery)
- The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion
- Sacred Heart Cathedral
Please make sure that you:
- come with comfy shoes, water bottle, sun hat and sunscreen.
- arrive to the pick-up point of 51 Mundy St, Bendigo by 9:45am.
- register by the closing date of 29 February 2024 to secure your spot.
- cancel your ticket if you cannot attend so it is offered to people on the waitlist.
The Bus Tour Schedule:
9:45am: Arrive at Mundy St in front of the YMCA Tom Tweed Stadium (51 Mundy St, Bendigo)
10am: Bus departs Mundy Street at 10.00am SHARP.
10.15am – 11.00am: Tour of Bendigo Mosque, East Bendigo
11.20am – 12.30pm: Tour of Karen Monastery, Eaglehawk followed by lunch provided by the Karen community (individually packed vegetarian lunch)
12.45pm – 2.30pm: Tour of the Great Stupa, Myers Flat, followed by afternoon tea at 2.00pm in the Great Stupa Café
3pm – 3.45pm: Tour of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo
3.45pm: Bus returns to pick-up point on Mundy St.
4pm: End of the Tour
This event is part of the celebrations for the Cultural Diversity Week 2024 and is organised by City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Interfaith Council.
Please note that City of Greater Bendigo will be taking photographs at this event that may be used by the City for promotional purposes.
