    Event description

Adam Young & The Down Main with Victoria

Adam Young released his first solo album, "Elementary Carnival Blues" in 2016. People said nice things about it. Post To Wire called it "a strong collection of songs ranging from dusty and soulful classic country-rock to stripped back songs... and the widescreen mid-west sounds of 90s guitar rock bands". The Re-mains' Mick Daley said it was "a hard-wired simulacrum of contemporary country rock". The Sydney Morning Herald called it "assured Americana... with a wide intake, from trad country [to] intense heartland rock". Adam is joined by his band, The Down Main.

Double J Radio called Victoria “an Australian supergroup”. Victoria is a band of long-time friends: Cameron Emerson-Elliott (Youth Group), Alison Galloway (Smudge), Patrick Matthews (The Vines, Youth Group) and Max Doyle (Songs).

Taking their name from the Kinks song, and inspiration from 80s/90s era Flying Nun acts and contemporary Australian bands like Dick Diver Victoria’s strength lies in their effortless ability to paint an evocative lyrical picture and set it to a memorable toe-tapping tune.

Linking up with Wayne Connolly’s Scenic Drive Records, the band has released the songs ‘Creative Frenzy’ in March and ‘Favourite Teacher’ in August 2022.

Having played in bands that have all created a frenzy (in at least some small corner of the indie world) Victoria is the coming together of four musically-minded friends who aren’t ready to put down their instruments any time soon. And indie rock is that little bit better off for it.
