AI Integration for Local Government Officers
Description
AI can help council officers work more efficiently, but local government has responsibilities that generic AI training often overlooks.
Records, privacy, information handling, and public trust all matter when AI is used in council work. This practical half-day workshop helps local government officers understand how to use AI within these responsibilities, with a focus on everyday tasks rather than technical theory.
You will work through realistic council scenarios, practise using AI to draft and check documents, and learn how to build simple safeguards into your workflow.
Who this is for
This session is designed for:
Local government customer service officers
Records and information management officers
Planning and development officers
Governance and administration teams
Council staff exploring responsible AI integration
What we will do together
Understand AI in the council context: Explore how AI use intersects with recordkeeping, privacy obligations under the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA), and community expectations.
Practise safe customer service use: Work through realistic counter and inbox scenarios and identify when AI assistance is appropriate and when it is not.
Draft and check council documents: Use AI to support a council-style document using fictional content, then apply a clear review and verification process.
Build your officer-level checklist: Turn what you learn into a practical checklist you can use in your day-to-day work.
What you will take home
A Council AI Safe-Use Checklist
A completed Draft-and-Verify Document Exercise
An Officer-Level AI Integration Checklist
