Applying a Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Lens

Event description

Stopping Family Violence has designed this training to support a range of roles and workplaces in recognising and safely responding to family domestic and sexual violence (FDSV). The training will help everyone to understand and/or provide support when needed and help to unpack what impact they can have through their current role in reducing and responding to the current high rates of FDSV.

By the end of this one-day training, you will have a greater awareness of FDSV and how to apply this knowledge in your role or workplace. The session is interactive, with plenty of opportunities for discussion to maximise your learning experience. Topics covered include:

  • Why does FDSV occur and what does it look like? Unpacking coercive control and FDSV tactics
  • What is an FDSV lens and why does it matter? Understanding perpetrator patterns, recognising and valuing victim, adult and child survivor strengths
  • An introduction to organising support and/or referrals and FDSV-informed documentation

Whilst specialist FDSV response providers will always play a central role in responding to FDSV, we know that, with the right support, training and information, a broad range of workforces and services can contribute and help by understanding how to recognise and respond safely. FDSV is preventable and we can all contribute to a future free of FDSV.

SFV take care to ensure our training workshops are safe and respectful spaces however, at times the content may be confronting or distressing and may bring up unexpected thoughts and feelings. We encourage well-being as a priority and will talk through self-care early in the day.
