Event description
Join SCCF's Native Landscapes & Garden Center for our "Back to Basics" native gardening workshop series!
- Thursday, Feb. 20, 1-3 p.m.: Right Plant, Right Place. With this session, you'll learn how to determine the right plants for your garden, starting with assessing your garden goals, such as attracting pollinators, creating privacy barriers, or providing shade. We'll discuss the importance of understanding the soil type, light availability, and moisture of your space so you can determine the right plant for the right place.
- Thursday, Feb. 27, 1-3 p.m.: Planting & Maintenance. In this session, you'll learn how to properly plant, water, and mulch. We'll discuss understanding plant establishment timelines for newly planted plants and determine next care steps such as weeding, and establishing a watering schedule.
- Wednesday, March 12, 1-3 p.m.: Pruning. With this session, you'll learn proper pruning techniques, what tools to use and why, and how to maintain tools.
- Wednesday, March 26, 1-3 p.m.: Pests. With this session, you'll learn how to identify beneficial vs. harmful pests in your garden, and how to avoid systemic pesticides and opt for organic alternatives instead
The class will take place outdoors at our open-air pavilion and will include a classroom portion as well as a hands-on demonstration. The instruction will be focused on native plants, but some of the principles apply to all types of plants.
