It helped my body let go of tightness.
"The class helped me let go of tightness and stress by teaching me how to move naturally and consciously. It's really relaxing and I felt like it improved my posture."

Our busy days do a very good job of pulling us out of our bodies; living in our heads, planning, organsing, worrying, living in go go go mode. This program is an invitation to come back down into your body and to listen to what it has to say.
Body First is a 4-week somatic movement program blending guided somatic exercises, free movement and authentic movement to help you release tension, build body awareness and develop tools you can use in everyday life.
Each session stands on its own so you can drop in any week, but attending across the series gives you the chance to go deeper and build on what you discover each time.
Guided somatic exercises to calm your nervous system and release tension.
Free and authentic movement to reconnect with how your body naturally wants to move.
Practical self-regulation tools you can use between sessions.
Greater body awareness to build the capacity to feel without being overwhelmed by it.
THIS IS FOR YOU IF
You feel disconnected from your body or like you spend most of your time in your head.
Stress, overwhelm or burnout has become your new baseline.
You go to bed exhausted but can't switch off.
You've been told to just relax but have no idea how to do that.
Your body feels like something to manage rather than something to live in.
You've tried talk therapy, yoga or meditation but want something that combines both the mind and body.
You're curious about somatic movement and want to try it in a supportive group setting.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Sessions are non-performative; there is no right way to move. You will be guided through somatic exercises and then given space to explore your own movement. No dance experience or fitness level required.
Just yourself and a water bottle
Anything you're comfotable to move in, or what you'd wear to a yoga/piilates/breathwork class.
No experience is needed, movement are guided and options are always offered.
First Trimester: Yes, you are welcome to attend, provided you have the all-clear from your doctor or midwife. Second & Third Trimester: This specific series is not recommended. Hanna Somatics requires lying flat on your back on the floor for extended periods, which can restrict blood flow and cause dizziness in later stages of pregnancy.
The studio is above social brew cafe, go down the lane way and you'll see some stairs, it's located on the upper level, follow signs for Caahm Kinesiology.
Doors open 5 minutes before class starts. Because we are working with the nervous system, we start on time to protect the quiet atmosphere. We cannot accommodate late arrivals once the session begins, so please aim to arrive 5 minutes early to settle in.

"First time trying Soma as I wanted to see what it was about and it was amazing. Everything was explained so clearly, it's a bit like a mix of mindfulness, stretching and movement therapy."
