Day 2 – Friday 5th                                                                         GOULBURN

Following breakfast, we enjoy a tour of Australia’s first inland city. Goulburn has many heritages listed buildings such as the Post Office, the Police Barracks the Court House, and the magnificent garden at Victoria Park. Next, we visit the Goulburn Historic Waterworks Museum. Set on the banks of the picturesque Wollondilly River at Marsden Weir. The steam operated pumping facility provided Goulburn’s first reticulated water supply and still contains the original Appleby Bros Beam Engine pump and Galloway Boilers. Our next stop is at Rocky Hill with its spectacular views over the city and surrounding areas. The site is also a memorial for those men and women of Goulburn who served in World War I. After lunch, (Own expense) we next visit today is at the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre. The Centre operates a working roundhouse housing both steam and diesel heritage locomotives, rolling stock and railway memorabilia. In addition to the locomotives, there is also a library of some ‘official’ railway publications a  nd other books of railway interest. Some of the official publications are available for purchase. After our tour, we take a guided tour of the St Saviours Cathedral. The Cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. St. Saviour's has been a place of worship and ministry since the 1830s and continues to serve the city of Goulburn and the diocese. It is one of the most beautiful Gothic Cathedrals in Australia. After our interesting visit we return to our hotel.

Day 3 – Saturday 6th                                BUNDANOON TO BRIGADOON

Early this morning we drive east to the Southern Highlands town of Bundanoon, the venue for the Annual Highland Gathering – Brigadoon”. The Street Parade begins with hundreds of pipes and drums, colourful floats and displays, marchers, vintage cars and service & community vehicles make their way to the grounds for the games.  We have pre-arranged our tickets - the profits from their sale contributing to many worthwhile charities and community causes in the Bundanoon area. As the Official Opening ceremony takes place, the Chieftain of the Day welcomes visitors to the gathering, inspects the massed bands and clan representatives, and presides over the day.  After the inspection, the bands retire, and the games begin.  During the day there are Scottish Country & Highland dancing demonstrations, individual Pipe Band displays and displays of the ancient arts of warfare by the medieval warriors!  Other traditional and not-so-traditional games include the caber toss, shot putt, hay toss, haggis hurling, egg toss, water toss and kilted races.  What fun! The day ends with the Closing Ceremony after which, we return to our accommodation for dinner.

Day 4 – Sunday 7th                                         TARALGA & CROOKWELL

This morning a visit and morning tea at Riversdale & Gardens National Trust. Meeting our guide, we discover the history of the Riversdale before exploring  the beautiful gardens. Our next stop is at Taralga which was originally planned as a private village for the Macarthur family and their employees. The town was integral in pioneering Australia’s wool industry and is largely untouched by modern influences today. It is home to a wool, lamb and beef industry and the architecture is somewhere between Georgian and Victorian in style. We pay a visit to the Taralga Historical Museum where our local guide recount stories of local significance from past and present. We enjoy lunch at the Taralga Hotel before continuing to Crookwell. Crookwell is a fine example of a large country town displaying many examples of buildings dating back to its origins in the mid-19th century, to the boom years of the 1870s, 1890s, and 1900s. We have some time at leisure here. On our way back to Goulburn we stop at Kingsdale Wines for a short tour and tasting with nibbles to complete a relaxing day.
