Come-and-try Flatwater Kayaking
Description
Join INCC Yarra Paddlers and get basic instruction and the opportunity to try paddling a TK1 on the river at Fairfield Park. (A TK1 is single flatwater boat that requires more balance but is faster and much more fun to paddle than common recreational kayaks).
All equipment is provided, along with hot showers if needed!
Instructors are qualified coaches, with first-aid and working with children certification.
Participants will also be invited to join club members for a coffee at the Fairfield Boathouse after their session.
The session provides an introduction - participants can sign-up for a 6-hour course to become skilled enough to join the club and enjoy the beautiful Birrarung any time they like!
Please note there are three sessions to choose from; 12pm, 1.30pm or 3pm. Each session lasts for 75 minutes.
This event is generously hosted by INCC Yarra Paddlers.
Before you book...
Most Riverfest events are free, and many have limited places with long waitlists. Please only book if you're confident you can attend, so others don't miss out. Bookings are limited to 2 tickets for smaller events and 4 tickets for larger events.
Can't make it? Please cancel your ticket by opening your Humanitix confirmation email and selecting 'Manage Order'. Your place will then be released to someone on the waitlist. If you need assistance, contact us by email: riverfest@yarrariver.org.au
Events will proceed unless severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances require a change. If this happens, registered participants will be notified by email.
Accessibility
Regrettably, the event is unsuitable for people with mobility challenges, and in fact, participants should be reasonably fit and strong to participate.
Participants should be able to squat down and stand up without help or by holding onto anything - this is necessary for getting in and out of the boat from the landing
The landing we will be using is only accessible by stairs

Acknowledgement of Country
Yarra Riverkeeper Association acknowledges that the lands and waterways of the Yarra, Birrarung catchment, are the unceded territories of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung and Bunurong Boonwurrung peoples. We pay respect to Traditional Owners, who have, and continue, to care for Country. We acknowledge that the river now called Yarra has always been known as the Birrarung by its custodians.
