Confluencia
Off the Hook Arts welcomes the fourth installment of the 2027 Magic Sunset Series to the Magic Rat Lounge with Confluencia, a Colorado-based ensemble whose very name is the meeting point where distinct waters flow into one. That's exactly what this group does: bringing together classical training, jazz improvisation, and Latin American tradition into a single, flexible sound.
Confluencia features Javier Vinasco on clarinet, Dana Landry on piano, Jolie González on vocals and guitar, Erik Applegate on double bass, and Diego Da Silva on drums and percussion. Through Vinasco's original arrangements, the ensemble's repertoire moves freely among Latin American traditions, jazz, contemporary popular song, and concert music — a space where different musical languages meet, interact, and take on new forms.
Leading the group is clarinetist Javier Vinasco, whose international career sits at the intersection of contemporary concert music, Latin American traditions, and cultural advocacy.
The Clarinet magazine has called him a virtuoso in every sense of the word — one whose technique always stays in service of the music itself.
Alongside him, bassist Erik Applegate brings a résumé spanning jazz, Latin American styles, and classic American rock and roll; JazzReview.com summed him up simply as "a top-notch acoustic bass performer."
This is a rare chance to hear musicians who've performed across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia — and who've built one of the country's most respected Latinx music programs — in the intimate setting of the Magic Rat Lounge.
Settle in, as the sun goes down, and let Confluencia carry you across borders, genres, and generations.
Reserve your seat now — space in the Sunset Lounge is limited.
