Alex Gonzalez, violin • Dr. Forrest Howell, piano

Slip away for an evening of intimate, world-class chamber music as Off the Hook Arts welcomes two extraordinary artists from the CU Boulder College of Music for an unforgettable program spanning Mozart's classical elegance to the pulsing minimalism of Philip Glass.

Violinist Alex Gonzalez brings a career that has taken him from Carnegie Hall to Oxford University, from BBC Radio 3 to the Sphinx Virtuosi's Deutsche Grammophon recordings. Critics have taken notice: the Danish paper Viborg Folkeblad called him a "true virtuoso" whose playing "left the audience almost breathless," while the South Florida Classical Review praised his "agile, incisive" playing. Don't miss the rare chance to hear this level of artistry up close, in the relaxed setting of the Sunset Lounge.

Joining him is pianist Dr. Forrest Howell, a wonderfully omnivorous musician whose recent performances span Detroit's Fisher Building, the Gilmore Piano Festival, and Hill Auditorium with the Ann Arbor Symphony. A gifted collaborator and writer as well as performer, Howell has shared the stage with artists including Lea Salonga, James Dunham, and Carol Wincenc, along with principal players from the Cleveland Orchestra, the Met Opera Orchestra, and the Colorado Symphony.

Together, Gonzalez and Howell offer a program of striking range and depth:

Sonata for Violin and Piano in E minor, K. 304 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791)
Allegro; Tempo di Minuetto)

Pendulum for Violin and Piano Philip Glass (1937 -     )

Peace for Violin and Piano Jessie Montgomery (1981 -  )

Sonata for Violin and Piano César Franck (1822 – 1890)

From Mozart's poised classicism to Franck's sweeping Romantic architecture, with Glass's hypnotic pulse and Montgomery's luminous lyricism in between — this is a program built for discovery. Grab a seat, grab a complimentary glass of wine, and let the sunset provide the backdrop for an evening of world-class music making.

Reserve your seat now — space in the Sunset Lounge is limited.
