Event description

When it feels like your entire world revolves around your child, your own needs can fall to the very bottom of the list. As your role expands to fill the gaps left by systems—taking on the jobs of advocate, therapy co-ordinator, NDIS expert and more—it’s easy to lose sight of who you are beyond being a parent to a child with disability.

This session is about redefining your role, recognising how valuable you are to your child and acknowledging why you deserve to exist outside of survival mode.

In this session, we’ll discuss:

  • What your role is (and isn’t)—and how it evolves over time
  • Rediscovering your identity outside of caregiving
  • The absolute importance you play in the life of your child
  • Why looking after yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s essential

About Beyond the Diagnosis Webinar Series

When your child receives a diagnosis, there’s a list of things you’re told to do: book the therapies, apply for funding, learn the systems. But what no one prepares you for is the emotional weight that comes with it. The grief of hearing your child described in terms of deficits and delays. The exhaustion from advocating for supports. The guilt that you’re not doing enough.

This is the part of parenting we don’t talk about—the part we often carry alone.

Beyond the Diagnosis is a four-part Conversation Series created for parents navigating the emotional and practical realities of raising a child with disability. Through real, honest conversations, you’ll hear from parents and professionals about the things we often don’t talk about—but that can make all the difference.
