Event description
Take a coastal adventure with Bruce Thom AM, one of Australia’s leading coastal scientists. Explore the stunning geological wonders of Coogee’s coastline and uncover fascinating social and environmental stories as you stroll this scenic walkway from Coogee Beach to Ivor Rowe Rockpool.
Aboriginal welcome and cultural sharing 8am - 8.15am
Before the tour start, respected Aboriginal elder Aunty Maxine Ryan from La Perouse will share her cultural knowledge, experiences and stories of the local coastal area.
This special walk happens only once a year. Don’t miss your chance to be part of it! Meet outside Coogee Surf Life Saving Club - south end of Coogee Beach. Maximum 20 people.
Bruce Thom AM is an Australian geoscientist and educator. A founding member of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists; Emeritus Professor at the University of Sydney and founding President of the Australian Coastal Society.

Refunds provided up to 48hrs prior to the event start time.
Photographs, videos and voice recordings
Randwick City Council staff may on occasion take recordings of participants during activities (including photographs, videos and voice recordings) that could be used for the following purposes:
educational or community information purpose
Council displays and promotions of community education events
to complement the promotion of Randwick's Marine and Coastal Program.
If you DO NOT wish for the participant’s recording to be used according to these conditions, please indicate this during the booking process.
Cancellation conditions
This activity may be cancelled due to insufficient bookings or poor weather. Participants will be advised in the event the activity changes or cancellation occurs. All care has been made in the preparation of the January 2026 Marine and Coastal Discovery Program, but some changes may occur due to circumstances beyond the control of Randwick City Council. Refunds provided up to 48hrs prior to the event start time and provided in the event of cancellation by Council.
