Documentation and Legal Considerations

This workshop will build your understanding and confidence about what should be documented and how it should be done to comply with the relevant legislations and workplace policies. We will explore the crossover of legislations that are used to form policies and procedures within your organisation and how to ensure compliance. We will review the use of templates, terminology and acronyms and how to use language that is objective and clear to all stakeholders. We will also discuss “consent” and how this applies to sharing information, including Client rights and how they can access records.Key Questions we will answer:

  • What is effective documentation?
  • When and what terminology and acronyms should be used?
  • What methods are used for collecting information (including formats and templates)?
  • Who will be reading your information and what do they need to do with it?
  • How can you document your information with clarity and be specific?
  • What is the Freedom Of Information (FOI) Act 1982 and how can information be requested?
  • What is the Privacy ACT 1988 and who is exempt?
  • What are the Privacy Principles and how can records be accessed?
  • What is the purpose of the Health Records ACT 2001 and how do we store records?
