Drawing as Conversation
Event description
Drawing can be a simple, humble activity. In the presence of something so great like a river, drawing can be an expression of admiration, respect, reverence. Drawing happens without words but is full of dialogue – full of receptivity, noticing, openness – and full of reflecting and responding. Drawing can attune us to the local ecologies we are part of and have a responsibility to care for.
In this friendly workshop, artist and facilitator Craig Burgess shares what he has learnt about drawing as a sensory, relational process. Come along to draw together with others, respectfully greeting the Birrarung. The workshop involves a gentle short walk. All drawing materials supplied. Craig has hosted Draw Plants Together drawing workshops since 2023 as a way to contribute his skills and experience across creativity and learning in the space of ecological care and well-being. Acknowledgement of Country
The Yarra Riverkeeper Association acknowledges that the lands and waterways of the Yarra, Birrarung catchment, are the unceded territories of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung and Bunurong peoples. We pay respect to Traditional Owners, who have, and continue, to care for Country. We acknowledge that the river now called Yarra has always been known as the Birrarung by its custodians.
