Focus on Inglewood - Taranaki Heritage Month 2026
Description
Inglewood was settled by Europeans from 1875. The town has an interesting history and many points of interest.
The Polish settlers arrived in the town in 1876 and Inglewood became the largest Polish settlement in New Zealand. Their hard work in clearing bush, road-building and bridge-building made a significant contribution to the development of the district and surroundings.
Hear Barbara Scrivens of Auckland speak of the Polish community experience as she talks about her recently published book. Following this there will be a break for lunch. There are several cafe possibilities.
Meet again at 1.00 pm at Fritz Reuter Place (main corner in Inglewood). We will then take a walk around Historical points of interest finishing back at St Andrew’s Church.
