Join us for a fun, technique based workshop that will be playing with different types of pallet knives and paint shapers. For beginners and experienced artists alike.

MEMBER: $50

NON-MEMBER; $60

The emphasis for this workshop is on textural gestures, expression and gaining confidence using a palette knife, a versatile painting tool, in your own works.

It will demonstrate the freedom it can give you to express bold form and texture.

We will experiment with a range of simple techniques that enable large areas to be covered loosely, and sharp detail added where needed and areas where we control the direction of the “strokes” keeping a loose, spontaneous feel.

A great workshop for beginners or experienced artists. All ability levels are welcome.

Workshop Plan

  • Introduction to tools

  • Experimenting with techniques

  • Creating a small final piece if time permits

Materials List

Bring what you have, and lots of it! DON’T buy anything new.

I have extra tools we can share.

Brushes and Tools

Bring a few brushes in various sizes as not all works are 100% pallete knife.

Palette Knives - bring them if you have them.

Flat Mixing Pallete is a must even if it's just a piece of plastic. I use glass and have a few spares.

Paper, Canvas, Cardboard

Bring anything you have.

  • Old works you can paint over

  • Heavy weight paper

  • Pieces of cardboard

  • If you currently use a sketchbook, bring that

Paints

As this is more directed towards techniques rather than a finished work feel free to bring some colours or old paints you don’t usually use. Take a look at the back of your cupboard.

My main choice is Matisse Structure, but not essential.

Tea, coffee and morning tea will be provided.
