Description

Girraween BioBlitz – Afternoon Botany Survey

Join botanist Andrew Pengelly from the Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium for an afternoon exploring the incredible plant diversity around Dr Roberts Waterhole in Girraween National Park.

Girraween's distinctive Granite Belt landscapes support an amazing diversity of native plants. This is a great opportunity to get out into the field, discover some of the many species found around Dr Roberts Waterhole and learn more about the plants that make this area so special.

Andrew will share his extensive knowledge of the local flora and help participants identify and appreciate the diversity of plants encountered along the way.

Whether you're an experienced botanist, a keen naturalist or simply curious about the plants growing around you, come along and discover more about Girraween's remarkable botanical diversity.

When: Saturday 17 October 2026, 1:30–4:30 pm
Leader: Andrew Pengelly, Stanthorpe Rare Wildflower Consortium
Meeting point: Dr Roberts Carpark https://maps.app.goo.gl/awrmC7UDoa6qE1BQ8

Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring plenty of water, as well as sun protection and a hat. The survey will involve walking through natural habitats and may include uneven or rocky terrain.

Accommodation: Accommodation is not provided as part of the Girraween BioBlitz. Camping is available at the Girraween Camping Area, but availability is currently limited due to drought conditions, so we recommend booking early. A range of other accommodation options to suit different budgets is available in Stanthorpe and the surrounding area.
