Give Kapa Haka a Go!
Event description
Celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) with Te Whānau o Hakatere - the local senior Kapa Haka (Māori performing group).
Maybe you did kapa haka at school years ago.
Perhaps your friends or whānau are involved in kapa haka now.
Maybe you're not really sure what it's all about but you'd like to learn some Māori songs and give it a go...
Everyone is welcome to join us to celebrate te reo Māori and experience the power of kapa haka at this free event at Hakatere Marae.
We start at 5.15pm with a pōwhiri (welcome ceremony). After that we sing together, learning beautiful waiata, under the guidance of tutor Ellie Smith. Whether you’re Māori or from another culture, this is your chance to see, hear, and feel what kapa haka is all about.
Bring your whānau, your friends or just come along by yourself and be part of this joyful, inclusive celebration with our local adult rōpū.
The event is suitable for adults and rangatahi (youth). Tamariki are welcome to come along with their caregivers and join in the singing or just enjoy the atmosphere of being at the marae.
Please register so we know how many to expect.
Organised by Te Whānau o Hakatere and Keep Learning Mid Canterbury
