Join us in the beautiful gardens of Lanyon Homestead for our Grow Your Garden Plant Fair.

Kick-start your garden for Spring. The day includes a range of talks, workshops, activities and tours - a combination of ticketed and free events across age groups throughout the day. There will also be a wide variety of plant stalls selling seeds, bulbs, native plants, potted perennials, succulents, garden tools and much more.

A kids’ zone will be set up on the Apricot Lawn with a range of activities including workshops, lawn games and picnic spots.

Entry to the Plant Fair is by gold-coin donation. REGISTER through the Book Tickets to let us know you are coming and to receive updates before the Plant Fair. You don't need a ticket to come to the Plant Fair but there are some ticketed (free and paid) talks and workshops that requires booking. Please see the list below.

Kids Workshop: Pocket Press

Looking for a fun way to celebrate Spring? Join us for a workshop where you can learn how to make your own mini pocket flower press.

Take it with you and you'll be able to capture the beauty of nature on your family adventures and cherish those memories forever.

Kids Workshop: Nature Mask

If you enjoy nature play, then they will love our upcoming workshop! Imagine a beautiful nature masquerade ball where everyone wears their unique nature masks. These masks can be made using simple flowers and leaves, making it a fun and easy nature art project for kids. Join us for a fun-filled day at Lanyon Homestead.

Tour of the Gardens with Lanyon’s Head Gardener

Take a walk around the gardens of Lanyon Homestead with the ACT Historic Places’ head gardener. Find out how the heritage gardens are managed and maintained and discover what is planned for the summer months.

Flower Crowns from your Garden

Make a simple, pretty flower crown from natural materials while sitting on the picturesque verandah of the homestead, and then wear it while you enjoy the plant fair on a beautiful Spring day at Lanyon.

Talk: Dahlia Tuber Division and Propagation

Join Gerard Oldfield from Highland Dahlias to learn about tuber division and gain an understanding of which tubers are best for growing and which for green cuttings. Gerard will also discuss soil preparation, followed by a Q&A.

Demo: Cooking with Warrigals and other native flavours

Did you know that Australia has its own spinach? (Sort of). Discover how to handle these lovely lush leaves, turning them into brilliant green pancakes and moreish omelettes. Fiona from Bent Shed Produce will add her own twist on these classic dishes, using her extensive range of Australian native flavours and mixes, including Lemonberry Sugar and the renowned Native Peppersalt.

Workshop: Dillybag Weaving

First Nations people have utilised dillybags for thousands of years. To gather food resources, share materials and connect with one another.

These string bags are still used to this day by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Come and connect with Wiradjuri Fibre Artist Jessika Spencer and learn the technique to craft your very own!

Talk: The Art of Propagation: New Plants from Old

Join professional horticulturist and propagator Tracey Bool in a fun, fact-filled talk about plant propagation. Learn about seed sowing, stem propagation, and division and layering. Tracey will also share her best propagating tips, tricks and handy resources.

Homestead Tours

Go on a guided tour of the Homestead. Explore the 1860s interiors and the Edwardian extension built and furnished for Andrew Cunningham's new bride, Louisa. Entry includes the ACT Historic Places Art Prize Exhibition.
