Hamstring Tendinopathy

Proximal hamstring tendinopathy is a prevalent and often challenging condition, affecting a range of distinct populations, from athletes to older adults. Despite its frequency, the current evidence on effective management remains limited, leaving soft tissue therapists to rely heavily on trial-and-error approaches. This can make treatment outcomes unpredictable and difficult to optimise.

In this comprehensive one-day, hands-on workshop, Jimmy will provide a structured, evidence-informed approach to managing proximal hamstring tendinopathy. Drawing from both his extensive clinical experience and the latest research, he will guide you through best practices for assessment, treatment, and re-assessment of the condition.

The workshop will cover essential topics such as:

  • Key markers of recovery to track patient progress
  • Differential diagnosis to distinguish between similar presenting conditions
  • Best practice manual techniques for symptom relief
  • A structured exercise progression plan for long-term recovery and reconditioning

Jimmy will also discuss exercise loading—detailing when and how to safely progress a patient from early-stage rehabilitation to advanced strengthening phases. Attendees will leave the workshop with a working template that can be immediately applied to their clinical practice, minimising guesswork, and enhancing patient outcomes.

This workshop offers an invaluable opportunity for soft tissue therapists to enhance their skill set with actionable strategies that will improve their ability to manage this difficult condition with confidence.

Presenter: Jimmy Barker

Jimmy has been in private practice for over 21 years and teaching at CIT for the last 15 years. Jimmy has a degree in exercise science as well as a practicing soft tissue therapist. Jimmy draws on his clinical skills, personal experience, and current evidence to discuss hamstring tendinopathy including differential diagnoses.
