This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

This 3 hour workshop at Hakatere Marae will be facilitated by Harakeke weaver Vicky King and will cover an introduction to harakeke (flax), harvesting and preparing it for weaving, also tikanga.

Once preparation of the flax is complete, participants will learn to weave putiputi/ flowers (and maybe a bracelet if there's time) with the harakeke.

No experience is required - this is suitable for adult/ teen beginners.
There are only 12 places so get in quick if you're interested! People of all genders and cultures welcome.

If this event has sold out, check out the other workshops running this weekend, all are suitable for beginners. The Natural Wall Hangings event is the only one suitable for children (if together with their caregivers) and the pop up kete is an all day wānanga. Come to one or to all! Note: You can put your name on the waiting list if the event has sold out.

This Harakeke Wānanga is part of the Keep Learning Mid Canterbury 2023 programme and has been made possible thanks to funding from the Ashburton District Council Mayor's Fund
