History Week: Nowies, Ferries and Marine Villas
Event description
Celebrate History Week with Chery Kemp, Heritage Adviser to Hunters Hill Council, and John Johnson, City of Canada Bay’s Local Studies Librarian, as they share fascinating water stories of the Parramatta River.
Chery and John will explore the Parramatta River as a barrier, a transport link, a boundary, and an object of desire. Discover the river’s rich history of tool-making and food gathering, the early punts and ferries that crossed its waters, and the elegant houses built along its banks. They’ll also discuss the impact of the series of bridges constructed in the 1880s that linked the centre of Sydney with the North Shore.
