Make a Hydrangea Rosette - Ceramic Workshop by Tom Somerville
Event description
This workshop is open to CPA members only.
The little Hydrangea rosette we will make will be suitable as a table centre piece or to hang on a wall. Most importantly it will introduce to you lots of new ideas which will act as a foundation for your future creations ( if you happen to get inspired.)
We will make a plaster mould of a leaf that can then be used to press an almost unlimited number of copies. This will be yours to take home. I will show you how to simply and quickly made multitudes of flower petals. By using a small amount of coloured clay we can add colour to our flowers while keeping them simple for glazing. I will demonstrate how to glaze the piece on the day of the workshop. After the rosettes are bisque fired, glazing will be done at the club.
It will be a big day but hopefully there will be time at the end for a demonstration and discussion about other flower ideas.
I extend an invitation to you to be a contributor as well as a participant If you have made floral pottery yourself then please bring it along. If you make flowers from icing then put some on a cake and bring that. Remember great ideas don’t care who uses them!
Tom presents the course as suitable for all skill levels, and opens the door for a parent to bring a child. Younger people must be partnered with an adult (who is a member of CPA) and we request that the adult considers the suitability of the person they might bring. He’d suggest a minimum age of 10. For this course adult unattended is considered 16. The piece will be ready for Mothers Day

About Tom Somerville:
My name is Tom. My pottery website is www.muddyfingersnz@gmail.com
I got infected with the pottery addiction about 8 years ago. I have always liked to make stuff so pottery is a limitless opportunity for me. My mum was a keen gardener and so is my wife, funny that! She has collected a fabulous variety of plants and cares for them In our 2 acre garden in Helensville. I’m spoiled for choice when it comes to inspiration regarding foliage and flowers.
All my work is hand built and I love developing simple systems that others can easily follow to achieve a great result first time. I’ve run workshops for potters as young as kindy kids and have a regular Tuesday night mad house for my pottery buddies
