INTRODUCTION TO FOOT REFLEXOLOGY

A Practical Weekend Introduction – Victorian Training

Come and discover the foundations of foot reflexology in a practical, supportive and hands-on weekend designed to introduce you to the principles, techniques and professional approach of reflexology.

This course is ideal for people who are completely new to reflexology, existing complementary therapists wanting to add another treatment to their skills, or anyone considering progressing towards professional reflexology training.

The emphasis throughout the weekend is practical learning. Rather than simply learning about reflexology, you will have the opportunity to practise the techniques, work on the feet and develop your confidence under the guidance of experienced tutor Yve Frankcombe.

TRAINING VENUES

Geelong:
Vines Road Community Centre

Williamstown:
St Joseph’s by the Sea

The course is delivered in a friendly, practical learning environment where questions are encouraged and students are supported as they develop their technique.

WHAT MAKES THIS COURSE DIFFERENT?

A key focus of the introductory course is learning a clear and logical method of working medial to lateral across the foot.

You will be introduced to a systematic approach to working the foot so that you can understand where you are working, why particular areas are included and how to move comfortably from one section of the foot to another.

Throughout the weekend, you will progressively put the techniques into practice.

By the end of the weekend, you won't simply have watched a demonstration — you will have had the opportunity to practise the techniques yourself and begin putting together a basic reflexology treatment.

Here is a detailed course description suitable for your website, Facebook event or enrolment information:

WHAT MAKES THIS COURSE DIFFERENT?

A key focus of the introductory course is learning a clear and logical method of working medial to lateral across the foot.

You will be introduced to a systematic approach to working the foot so that you can understand where you are working, why particular areas are included and how to move comfortably from one section of the foot to another.

Throughout the weekend, you will progressively put the techniques into practice.

By the end of the weekend, you won't simply have watched a demonstration — you will have had the opportunity to practise the techniques yourself and begin putting together a basic reflexology treatment.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The course introduces the fundamental knowledge required to begin working with foot reflexology.

Reflexology foundations

You will explore:

  • What reflexology is and how it is used as a complementary therapy

  • The history and development of reflexology

  • The basic principles behind reflexology

  • Reflexology maps and zones

  • How the feet are divided into reflex areas

  • Understanding the relationship between the feet and the body within reflexology theory

  • The importance of a systematic treatment approach

Foot anatomy and observation

You will learn about:

  • Basic foot anatomy

  • The structure of the foot

  • Different areas of the foot used during treatment

  • How to observe the feet before commencing treatment

  • Preparing the client and yourself

  • Positioning for comfort and good working technique

Practical reflexology techniques

You will be introduced to and practise techniques including:

  • Thumb walking

  • Finger walking

  • Crawling and working techniques

  • Rotational techniques

  • Pressure application

  • Relaxation techniques

  • Working individual reflex areas

  • Transitioning smoothly between areas

  • Working medial to lateral

  • Maintaining a comfortable rhythm throughout treatment

  • Using appropriate body mechanics while working

The aim is to help you develop a technique that is controlled, comfortable and repeatable.

MEDIAL TO LATERAL WORKING

One of the practical foundations of the course is learning how to work systematically across the foot.

Rather than moving randomly from one reflex area to another, students will learn how to follow a structured pathway, including working medial to lateral through appropriate areas of the foot.

This helps students begin to understand:

  • Where they are working

  • How to locate reflex areas

  • How to move from one area to another

  • How to maintain continuity during a treatment

  • How to develop a treatment routine

  • How to work with greater confidence and purpose

You will practise the sequence repeatedly so that the movements become more familiar and natural.

PRACTICAL LEARNING

This is a hands-on course.

You will have opportunities to observe demonstrations before practising the techniques yourself.

Throughout the weekend you will:

Watch → practise → receive guidance → adjust your technique → practise again.

Yve will demonstrate techniques and provide practical guidance as students work through the different sections of the foot.

Questions are encouraged throughout the course, and students can receive feedback as they develop their skills.

By the end of the weekend, you should have experienced the basic techniques required to begin giving a simple introductory reflexology treatment.

CLIENT CARE AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

Reflexology is not only about learning where the reflex areas are.

A good treatment also involves creating a comfortable, professional and respectful experience for the client.

You will therefore be introduced to:

  • Client consultation

  • Preparing the treatment area

  • Client positioning

  • Draping and comfort

  • Professional communication

  • Hygiene and cleanliness

  • Treatment preparation

  • Working within appropriate professional boundaries

  • Contraindications and precautions

  • When further information or professional advice may be required

  • Finishing and closing a treatment appropriately

These foundations are important for anyone considering progressing from introductory study into professional reflexology training.

WHY LEARN REFLEXOLOGY?

Reflexology can be a valuable complementary therapy skill to add to your existing knowledge or begin learning as a completely new area.

Learning reflexology can help you:

✔ Develop a new practical therapy skill
✔ Add another treatment to an existing complementary therapy practice
✔ Build confidence working with clients
✔ Develop your understanding of the feet and reflex areas
✔ Explore a pathway into professional reflexology education
✔ Meet other people interested in complementary therapies
✔ Gain practical experience in a supportive learning environment
✔ Continue developing your skills after the introductory course

For existing massage, beauty, wellness or complementary therapy practitioners, reflexology can also provide another approach to incorporate into your broader range of skills, subject to your existing qualifications, professional requirements and insurance arrangements.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE INTRODUCTORY COURSE?

The introductory weekend can be the first step towards further reflexology education.

If you discover that reflexology is something you would like to pursue more seriously, you can progress into further study, including a Diploma-level reflexology program.

Further study allows you to develop much greater depth in areas such as:

  • Anatomy and physiology

  • Reflexology theory

  • Advanced treatment techniques

  • Treatment planning

  • Client assessment and consultation

  • Professional practice

  • Business skills

  • Case studies and treatment records

  • Practical assessment

  • Working with a broader range of clients

  • Developing your confidence as a practitioner

The goal is to progressively move from learning the basics → practising the techniques → developing confidence → completing further professional training → preparing for practice.

If your ultimate goal is to become work-ready as a reflexology practitioner, an introductory course is the beginning rather than the end of your education.

A Diploma-level pathway provides the opportunity to develop the knowledge, practical skills, assessment experience and professional understanding required for a more comprehensive reflexology qualification.

YOUR TUTOR – YVE FRANKCOMBE

Your Victorian training will be presented by Yve Frankcombe.

Yve's approach focuses on practical learning and helping students understand not only what they are doing, but also how to develop a comfortable and systematic treatment technique.

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, practise techniques and receive guidance throughout the weekend.

BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND

Our aim is for you to leave with more than a manual.

You will have:

✔ An introduction to reflexology theory
✔ An understanding of reflexology zones and maps
✔ An introduction to foot anatomy
✔ Practical reflexology techniques
✔ Experience working medial to lateral
✔ Experience locating and working reflex areas
✔ An introduction to treatment sequencing
✔ Client-care knowledge
✔ An understanding of contraindications and precautions
✔ Hands-on practice
✔ Greater confidence working with the feet
✔ A clear idea of where you can progress next

Most importantly, you will have put the techniques into practice during the weekend.

This gives you a practical foundation on which to continue building your skills.

FAQs

  • What's next diploma?

HOW DO I START A DIPLOMA IN REFLEXOLOGY?

Have you completed an introductory reflexology course and thought:

    “What do I do next?”

If you have enjoyed learning the foundations of reflexology and would like to take your skills further, a diploma pathway can be your next step.

Our diploma courses commence in February, with a combination of online learning and practical face-to-face training. This blended approach allows you to develop your theoretical knowledge while continuing to practise and develop your hands-on reflexology skills.

TWO PATHWAYS – CHOOSE THE LEVEL THAT SUITS YOU

We offer two study options to help students progress according to their experience, goals and commitment.

    LEVEL 2 – SIX-MONTH PROGRAM

Our Level 2 pathway provides an opportunity to continue developing your reflexology knowledge and practical skills over approximately six months.

This option may suit students who want to build on an introductory course and develop a stronger foundation before progressing further.

    You will continue developing:

    • Reflexology techniques

    • Foot reflexology sequences

    • Hand reflexology skills

    • Reflexology theory

    • Client care

    • Treatment preparation

    • Contraindications and precautions

    • Professional practice

    • Practical treatment skills

    • Confidence working with clients

The combination of online and face-to-face learning allows you to continue your studies while fitting your education around work, family and other commitments.

    LEVEL 3 – 18-MONTH DIPLOMA PATHWAY

For students wanting a more comprehensive professional education, our Level 3 pathway runs over approximately 18 months.

This is the pathway for students who want to take their reflexology knowledge considerably further and work towards becoming a confident, professionally prepared reflexology practitioner.

The program combines theoretical learning with practical training and supervised experience.

You will develop your knowledge across areas such as:

    • Reflexology theory

    • Advanced reflexology techniques

    • Anatomy and physiology

    • Client consultation

    • Treatment planning

    • Practical treatment skills

    • Professional communication

    • Health and safety

    • Infection control

    • Professional practice

    • Business skills

    • Case studies and treatment experience

The aim is to develop not only your knowledge, but also your practical confidence and professional skills.

ASRR's published Level 3 diploma information describes a blended model incorporating online study with in-person reflexology training and supervised clinical experience.

    ONLINE + FACE-TO-FACE LEARNING

You don't have to choose between online study and practical education.

Our blended approach gives you the opportunity to complete appropriate theoretical components online while attending face-to-face sessions for the practical elements of your reflexology training.

Online learning may include areas such as:

Anatomy • Physiology • Business • Theory • Supporting studies

    Face-to-face learning focuses on:

Practical reflexology • Demonstration • Technique • Treatment practice • Supervised learning

This combination allows you to learn the theory and then bring that knowledge into the practical environment.

FROM INTRODUCTORY COURSE TO PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Your journey can begin with one of our introductory courses.

    You may start by learning:

Introduction → Foot Reflexology → Hand Reflexology → Further Study → Diploma → Professional Practice

An introductory course allows you to experience reflexology and decide whether you would like to continue.

If you discover that reflexology is something you are passionate about, you can then explore the next stage of education with us.

You don't need to know everything before you start.

You learn, practise, develop and build your skills step by step.

    WHY CONTINUE INTO DIPLOMA STUDY?

A weekend introductory course can give you the foundations.

Diploma study takes those foundations much further.

You will have the opportunity to develop your practical techniques, expand your theoretical understanding and gain experience working with clients.

Most importantly, further study gives you time to practise.

Reflexology is a hands-on skill. Confidence comes from learning the technique, practising it repeatedly, receiving feedback and gradually developing your own professional treatment style.

WHERE CAN YOUR TRAINING TAKE YOU?

Further reflexology education can provide a foundation for working towards professional practice.

Depending on your qualifications, professional requirements and insurance arrangements, reflexology practitioners may work in settings such as:

    • Private practice

    • Home-based clinics

    • Multidisciplinary practices

    • Wellness environments

    • Aged-care settings

    • Disability services

    • Spas and complementary health environments

    • Community wellbeing programs

ASRR describes its professional training as supporting students who wish to develop professional reflexology skills and progress into private practice and other complementary-therapy environments.
