Event description

Established watercolour artist and tutor, Dan Nastasie, explains the complexities of Composition in painting.
Composition is the thoughtful arrangement of visual elements to create balance, focus, and harmony.
Artists use techniques like the Rule of Thirds to position focal points, while Leading Lines guide the viewer's gaze.
Contrast and Colour Harmony add interest, while Negative Space ensures clarity and Perspective gives a sense of depth.
Effective composition enhances storytelling and engages the viewer emotionally and visually.

In this session we will apply the rules of composition to a landscape following the steps:

  1. simplify the image
  2. designate one or more focal points
  3. divide the image in big shapes
  4. create a tonal value study sketch
  5.  add leading lines, adjust contrast, create negative shapes, etc
  6. paint the landscape.
