Kaipara Cruise, Picnic & Beach Day
Event description
We are so happy to be repeating this amazing trip with the wonderful Kaipara Cruises again this year for an end of year treat!
We will hop aboard the beautiful Kewpie Too at the wharf at Parakai picking a lovely spot on board the boat inside, at the stern or on the roof. We will take a scenic cruise down the Kaipara Harbour exploring some of the inlets with our captain and host giving us some history along the way. Our final destination will be the beautiful Shelly Beach which boasts a very cool wharf, lovely little beach to swim in, playground, big grassy areas for games and Pōhutukawa trees to lounge under. Life Learners team will be there with Kayaks, beach activities and games to keep everyone mixing and mingling!
Approximately Timetable:
10.45am aim to arrive at Parakai Wharf
11am Boat Departs on Cruise
12.30pm We arrive at Shelly Beach
3.30pm We depart from Shelly Beach
5pm Arrive back at Parakai Wharf
What to know:
- Shelly Beach has showers, changing rooms and toilets.
- Life Learners provides a free cuppa area is for adults once at the beach.
- There is no shops nearby.
- There is some picnic tables; please respectfully give these to people with mobility or difficulties sitting on picnic mats.

Life Learners will have ice cream, ice blocks, hot chip cups and sausages & bread as an easy preordered lunch option!
There will be cold drinks & some other treats on the day for cash.
What to Bring:
- Water Bottle
- A picnic mat
- Any first aid or medical needs for your family.
- Picnic lunch and snacks if you are not ordering with Life Learners.
- Beachwear, towels, warm clothing to get changed into (it can get windy & cold at the beach).
- There will not be any bulky prams, chilli bins or buggy's able to go on the boat. Whatever you bring will need to be carried onto the boat and from the wharf at Shelly Beach to the beach area.
- We will have a vehicle able to transport anything necessary like prams or that can take things for anyone with young children/ disabilities that finds it difficult to carry things. We will load up and leave at 11am from Parakai Wharf then bring it back to Parakai once the boat gets back.
Last year was a simply stunning day and we are hoping for the same!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT LIFE LEARNERS EVENTS:
(you will be asked to agree you have read and understand with your booking)
Kayaks
- Please ensure Life Learners Kayaks are looked after - we take pride in being able to provide these for the home educated community to use!
- Kayaks, paddles and life jackets must be returned to the signed 'parking area' when you are finished with them.
- Please be aware of others who want to have a go at the Kayaking and do not take them for excessively long periods.
- Look after the paddles! They are not for fighting, leaning on, digging with etc...
- If you are Kayaking you must wear a Life Jacket.
- All youth on Kayaks are the responsibility of the supervising parent/ adults - please ensure an adult is watching your youth on the Kayaks for safety and respect of the equipment.
Games & Other Equipment
- Please ensure Life Learners Equipment is looked after by your youth and they stay in the signed area for the equipment.
- Please help to tidy up at the end of the trip.
Cost includes: a group contribution; this supports the organization of outings/ sessions for the home educated community and online services used for bookings. All events are volunteer organized to benefit the home education community.
Check in: Life Learners coordinator will be at this event. You will need to sign in your groups booking when you arrive at the event.
Group Minimums: There is a minimum amount of tickets that need to purchased on most events (set by the venue). If this event fails to reach the minimum amount of tickets booked before the last day of registration; the event will be cancelled and refunded.
Communication and updates about Life Learners Events: updates will be emailed via the events website (Humanitix), posted on the event booking page and the Facebook Events Page. Please ensure you are keeping up to date on this information and check the event booking page the day before your event for any updates.
