Event description

Kids workshop aged 6-14 - Children’s Introduction to Pottery – Handbuilding – pinch pot creations

After the success of the adult’s clay workshops, Alison Lowe is back this time with an amazing opportunity for young clay enthusiasts.

Sign your child up to this small friendly class of likeminded curious young creators. It is a total beginner’s class and will introduce your child to the intricacies of creating with clay. They will learn the basic skills and the rudiments of hand-building using a pinch pot method, this will ensure their clay creations are made well. Participants will have the chance to add further colourful flair to their pieces using underglazes and will get to take your creations home once they have gone through the complexities of firing in a kiln. You will be notified when they are ready for collection (about 1-2 weeks after the workshop) where they will be available to pick up from the ŌCC office at the Ōtorohanga Information Centre.

Alison has been engaged in ceramics/pottery for the past 7 years building up her expertise and attending learning opportunities from NZ and overseas clay experts and artists, including the tri-annual ceramics conference in Tasmania. She has a studio space on her property in Te Awamutu where she creates beautiful pottery pieces in her large functional kiln, mini kiln and a raku kiln. Alison sells her work online and at markets, you may have seen Alison and some of her creations at the Ōtorohanga Christmas market last year.

Participants should dress for mess and bring snacks and a water bottle.

Workshop is $120 per person (+booking fee of $3.90) this includes clay, under glazes (clay paints), tools and 21hrs total  of kiln firing - Running over 2 Sundays : 18th and 25th August

The workshop will take place in the space behind the Ōtorohanga iSite (21 Maniapoto Street) Entrance to the workshop will be off Wahanui Crescent.
