Event description

Les Misérables: School Edition is a student-friendly adaptation of the acclaimed musical based on Victor Hugo’s novel. Set in early 19th-century France, it tells a powerful story of justice, redemption, love, and revolution, featuring shortened scenes and slightly simplified language while preserving the heart of the original production.

The story follows Jean Valjean, a man imprisoned for stealing bread to feed his family. After serving 19 years and being released on parole, he struggles to find a new life. A kind bishop inspires him to change, and Valjean breaks parole to start anew under a new identity. However, Inspector Javert, a relentless police officer, dedicates his life to pursuing Valjean.

Years later, Valjean becomes a respected mayor and factory owner. One of his workers, Fantine, is fired unjustly and forced into poverty. On her deathbed, she pleads with Valjean to care for her daughter, Cosette. Valjean rescues Cosette from the cruel Thénardiers, her abusive guardians, and raises her as his own.

As Cosette grows up, she falls in love with Marius, a young revolutionary. Meanwhile, political unrest brews in Paris, and students prepare for a rebellion. Marius joins the fight, unaware that Valjean is secretly protecting him—even saving his life during the failed uprising.

In the end, Javert is torn between his duty and his conscience, leading to his downfall. Valjean, redeemed but weary, dies peacefully, having fulfilled his promise to Fantine and passed on a legacy of love and compassion.

This version of Les Misérables maintains the show’s emotional depth and iconic songs—such as "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and "Bring Him Home"—while being accessible and suitable for younger performers.
