Liverpool’s Living History: Explore, Discover, and Nominate What Matters
Event description
Liverpool is changing fast — but that does not mean we should forget what made us who we are.
That’s why Liverpool City Council is updating the Liverpool Heritage Study, first created in 1992 and last reviewed in 2005. This study helps us understand our local history and identify the places that matter — so we can protect them for the future.
In this presentation, we will take you on a journey through some of Liverpool’s existing heritage items, including important historical buildings and archaeological sites that reveal stories from our past. You’ll get a snapshot of what’s already been recognised and why it’s important.
We will also share the two new thematic histories — First Nations and Colonial and Post-Colonial — that tell the broader story of how our area has been shaped over time. These were developed with help from the community and give us a richer, more inclusive picture of Liverpool’s history.
This session is also about how you can get involved with the Liverpool Comprehensive Heritage Study. We’re currently inviting the community to nominate places they believe should be further assessed and protected as part of our local heritage. Whether it’s a building, park, or something unique to your neighbourhood — your input matters. Nominations are open until Saturday, 31 May 2025 — so come along, get inspired, and be part of preserving Liverpool’s story.
In addition to the presentation on their current Project, Dr. Calabrese and Miss Singh will discuss their background in archaeology and their favourite past projects.
