Event description

Love pizza but hate food waste? Come get hands-on in the kitchen and learn how to turn overlooked ingredients into delicious pizza in this cooking workshop with Scott Hitchins.

You’ll learn:

•       How to make creative, seasonal pizzas from scratch and on a budget

•       Tips for reducing food waste while still eating well

•       Clever ways to use every part of your veggies

There will be vegetarian and some vegan options. All food will be Halal and no beef products will be used.

Expect good vibes, good convo, and seriously tasty low-waste pizza.

About the Facilitator:

You may know Scott Hitchins from his popular Gardening and Sustainability workshops, but he is also an experienced cook, having run a catering business, taught Tafe-level Hospitality, and run the very popular Harmony Feast for nearly a decade.  He prepares tasty produce-driven dishes with a focus on Seasonal & Sustainable Eating in a manner that suits all budgets and all family members. Influences from many cultures permeate his cooking, as does an interest is using all parts of the produce at hand.

Please note: To create a safe space that belongs to young people, this activity is for 12-25 year olds only. Support workers are encouraged to attend if the attendee has support needs - please let us know these upon registration. If you wish to meet our friendly staff before the event you are welcome to arrive up to fifteen minutes early. Accessibility

We aim for our events to be as accessible as possible. The Djerring Flemington Hub is wheelchair accessible and there is an elevator. There are accessible bathrooms on site. Grassroots Program

This activity is part of monthly events hosted by the Grassroots Program. Grassroots is a group of young people who meet once a month in Moonee Valley to care for the environment, be more sustainable, and tackle climate change. We take part in fun, hands-on activities that connect us to nature—such as litter clean-up days, tree planting, nature walks, citizen science projects, and more. We also go on excursions together! Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally. 

If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you. Photos will be taken at this event, but there is an option to opt out on the day.
