Morning MAAT Movement; Kemetic Yoga
Event description
MAAT in Kemetic Yoga is the concept of universal balance, harmony and order. This offering from Jackie Drummond intends to help us take a step towards MAAT together! During class, expect guided movement, practicing balance, connection, laughter, and release as we move emotions and our muscles in the morning.
‘What is Kemetic Yoga?
It is much more than merely doing poses that come from the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs and temples. Kemetic Yoga is a social, cultural and political movement which emerged out of the struggle for liberation of African people all over the world.
We invite all people to participate in this system of Yoga as a positive means of total self development but it's underlying motive is the restoration and rejuvenation of the culture, health and well-being of a people that has been intentionally and systematically locked out of the telling of world history by the dominant political economic structure which is controlled by a worldwide minority.’ - Master Yirser Hotep
About Jackie Drummond:
Jackie Drummond (they/she) grew up in Colorado in a multicultural and multigenerational house. They are excited to bring Kemetic yoga and African ritual to Manos! Kemetic yoga stems from ancient African traditions and is a social, cultural and political movement dedicated to restoring the health and history of Black folks. In addition to teaching movement in the community, they teach people how to sew and transform fibers as a way to regenerate our relationship with ourselves, each other and the Land. They are on their way to healing and are sharing what they know with care and intention. They study Kemetic Yoga under Master Yirser Ra Hotep, Michelle Blu, Sarah Wes, and Ursula Macheke. Jackie encourages Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), Queer/2SLGTBQIA+, children, elders, trauma survivors, neurodiverse, and disabled community members to join them in class, where they intentionally hold space for marginalized people to reclaim joy!
