NALHN EMET Toxicology and Toxinology Emergencies Full Day Workshop CLARE

The program is funded by NALHN as part of the ACEM EMET Program. There is no cost to attend the workshop and light refreshments will be provided.
Clinical Lead for the program is Dr Tariq Nehvi, Director of the NALHN EMET Program and Senior Consultant, Emergency Department Lyell McEwen Hospital.
Medical officers, General Practitioners, Nurses and Paramedics working in Emergency Care settings are welcome to attend the workshops. Registration is required and as numbers for each session are limited please book early to avoid disappointment.
Topic: Toxicology and Toxinology Emergencies
This workshop covers the recognition and emergency management of patients with toxicology and/or toxinology emergencies in the Emergency department. It will explore how to approach, assess, diagnose and manage these emergencies.
Course Learning Outcomes:
Differentiate the clinical presentation, life threats, stabilisation and investigation of the patient presenting with a history of acute poisoning
Discriminate the procedure for risk assessment in the patient with acute poisoning.
Summarise the risk assessment and options for behavioural stabilisation in the management of severe agitation
Contrast the pharmacological options for management of the severe agitation in the patient with acute poisoning
Identify bites and stings and the appropriate management and treatment of the patient presenting with a bite or sting
