OUT in the Garden
Description
The Royal Botanic Garden goes queer for Mardi Gras. Inspired by the theme Hyperbloom, join us for a guided scientific and queer romp through the garden and design a flowering garden in miniature to take home.
The evening begins with the Queer Plants walk. Plants are the original queers! Discover how plants have been successfully embracing diversity for millions of years and explore flowers in queer culture. In the garden we’ll visit the succulent garden, tropical garden and more to explore some of the plant kingdom’s sexy secrets: funky fragrances, floral symbology, the anatomy of diverse assemblages of flowering plants, their adaptations and connections.
We’ll then move to the historic Palm House, NSW’s oldest glasshouse which is transformed into the queer garden shrine. We’ll make a Hyperbloom garden in miniature to take home and nurture. Get your hands dirty and create an arrangement of kaleidoscopic flowers, moss and ferns to choose from. Display it at home as a proud reminder of the queerness all around us! All materials provided.
Food and drinks available upon arrival.
