Event description

Join us on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at Prosser River Reserve on Tasmania's east coast just outside of Buckland.

The reserve protects 11 threatened plant and animal species, old-growth and threatened vegetation communities, and freshwater ecosystems. Gorse (Ulex europaeus) is one of the key threats to the values of this reserve due to its ability to creep into the edges of forests and outcompete native understorey, as well as threaten native grasslands. Volunteers have been treating gorse since early 2024 and have been making a serious impact! It's tough work on steep slopes but so rewarding when you see the results!

Join us for a day out along the beautiful Prosser River. Meet at 9.45am. Work 10am - 2pm. Gloves and all PPE provided. Morning tea provided.

Please note that the event will be postponed in the case of wet weather.

By getting involved, you will:

  • Help control a highly invasive weed species.

  • Learn how to identify Gorse and the best methods of control

  • Meet and volunteer with other supporters in a beautiful location and hopefully have some laughs together!

Who should apply:

  • A good level of fitness and mobility is required however there are a variety of tasks and you will be working in a team so different abilities can be accommodated.

  • People interested in land and conservation management - you will use a variety of techniques and proper application methods.

  • You will need sturdy footwear, long sleeve and pants are required as gorse is a prickly weed.

Getting Started:

After registration closes for this volunteering opportunity Gemma or Belle, from our Reserve Management team, will be in touch to have a chat and arrange the next steps.
