Event description

Join this interactive field day to spot the Purple Copper Butterfly, learn about its habitat, and discover ways to support biodiversity and threatened species.

Event details:

Have you seen a Purple Copper Butterfly? This endangered species is found only in the unique landscapes of the Central Tablelands.

Join Central Tablelands Local Land Services to explore a Travelling Stock Reserve and learn about the butterfly’s lifecycle, habitat, and conservation efforts through the Saving Our Species (SOS) program.

Celebrate Biodiversity Month and Threatened Species Day (7 September) by seeing these amazing butterflies during their short flying season.

Come along to learn more about this endangered species and how the SOS program is helping protect its habitat.

Bring your camera for photo opportunities and take part in butterfly monitoring and citizen science activities on the day.

About the Purple Copper Butterfly:

Found in the Central Tablelands region between Bathurst, Lithgow and Oberon above 850 metres elevation, the Purple Copper Butterfly has a unique relationship with Native Blackthorn and a species of small black ant.

This event is part of Central Tablelands Biodiversity Month.

  • There will be walking across bushland and uneven surfaces involved.
