Applying concepts and underlying 'ologies'
Event description
What happens when we use concepts in qualitative data analysis? How do the different ontologies and epistemologies that come with the theories they are drawn from manifest in the practical approach and final written outcome? Complementing our previous workshops on the mechanics of using concepts, this workshop explores different examples of concepts in use from a deeper perspective. Examples from work on homelessness, racism and education, transnational business, and healthcare will be explored.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand how concepts are embedded in ontological and epistemological assumptions
- Learn how to trace these assumptions in the way researchers analyse qualitative data.
