Responding to difficult situations and trauma-informed de-escalation (Newman)
Description
Whether you are a social worker, case manager, counsellor, or support worker, it is common to work with people whose presentations may be shaped by experiences of trauma or significant distress. This short workshop explores how behaviours and presenting concerns can be understood as responses to trauma and distress, rather than as isolated problems.
Participants will be introduced to practical trauma-informed de-escalation and intervention strategies applicable to everyday practice.
Learning outcomes:
Define trauma and how it can present as challenging behaviours
Adopt trauma-informed practice that delivers safe and inclusive service environments
Provide practical, safe and respectful de-escalation and intervention techniques
The workshop is for:
Individuals and workers in a wide range of frontline and support service delivery roles.
