Staveley Forest Tour

Event description

Come and experience a walking tour through Staveley Camp’s precious protected remnant native forest with kaitiaki gen de spa.

If you haven't had much experience in New Zealand native forests, this is a great opportunity to learn more about our native plants, trees and birds, and see them up close and all around you. If you have been in this forest before, you are bound to see something new as nature's dynamic flow means the forest is always changing and regenerating.

On this tour you will hear about the work involved in tipping the balance towards regenerating native New Zealand species and away from the exotic species always keen to take hold. Hear about the work of a small group of dedicated people over the past decades who have cared for the little remnant native forest at Staveley Camp and about opportunities for participating in this work yourself. After the tour concludes, if you are interested, you are welcome to help with forest projects introduced on the tour.

Be prepared for natural obstacles as some tracks are clearer than others! Sturdy shoes, long pants and loppers wouldn't go amiss! You might like to bring a packed lunch for after the tour as you are bound to want to stay longer in the forest - experiencing it from a hammock or by working on a forest project. We also have another event happening in the forest after lunch - making Nature Mandalas

This event is part of the Staveley Camp Open Weekend - feel free to come and stay for the weekend! Check out the link for all the details and to register.
