Stepping Back from Thoughts

Overview

Our minds are rarely quiet - they’re often analysing, predicting, and planning. In this session, we’ll explore how thinking patterns influence our emotions, decisions, and behaviour, and how mindfulness can help us create space from our thoughts so we can respond with more awareness and choice.

What You’ll Experience

Through short demonstrations and guided exercises, you’ll:

  • Notice how automatically thoughts arise

  • Learn what it means to become “hooked” by thoughts

  • Practice simple techniques for stepping back from your thoughts

What You’ll Take Away

  • A clearer understanding of how your thinking mind operates

  • First-hand experience of stepping back from thoughts

  • Simple techniques you can begin applying straight away

This session introduces core concepts and skills that can be explored more deeply in longer workshops or programmes.

Who This Is For

Anyone with a busy mind — whether at work or in everyday life — who is interested in developing greater awareness and perspective in how they relate to their thinking.

Our next talk in this series of mindingu Wellbeing at Work Talks is

Self Compassion on 23 June, 2026, 12pm-1pm, in Bunbury.

mindingu Wellbeing at Work Talk Series

Part of our mindingu Wellbeing at Work Talk Series, this talk is one of 12 standalone sessions designed to help participants develop practical skills for wellbeing and resilience.  Every talk is self-contained, giving you actionable strategies you can use right away.

For those who explore multiple sessions, the talks progressively build on each other, helping participants develop a deeper, more integrated set of skills that support wellbeing and resilience over time.

Each session is interactive and practical, combining key ideas with activities such as reflection, partner discussions, experiential exercises, and brief mindfulness or ACT-based practices, all grounded in real workplace examples.  Participants also receive handouts and, where relevant, audio resources to support continued practice.
