Event description

“The Australian Research Funding Landscape” is a series of online workshops delivered by UTS Aspire with the aim of showcasing the diversity of opportunities available to UTS researchers in attracting external research funding.

The series will begin with an overview session, showcasing the breadth of the research funding landscape in Australia. A number of follow-on sessions are offered in subsequent weeks, each providing detailed insights into the different funding types.

This is the registration page for the follow-on session ‘Why Tenders Matter: What Matters in Tendering’.

UTS is committed to ‘Research with Impact’ - that is research that meets the specific needs of government, industry, and/or the community. Tenders are quite different to the usual sources of funding, but can be significant support for impactful research.

Rather than the researcher defining their research interest, tenders require researchers to demonstrate how their skills, experience and capabilities are best suited to solving an external (commissioning) party’s problem.

In the ‘Why Tenders Matter: What Matters in Tendering’ session, Edwina Deakin and Jillian Rose (Institute for Public Policy and Governance) will run through the fundamentals of successful tendering, drawing on over 20 years of tendering experience working inside and outside the university.

Face-to-face attendance at this session is encouraged if you are able, and to the extent Covid restrictions permit, but we will have zoom link to the session should you require it.

Learning outcomes:

  • Awareness of the differences between grant applications and tender writing, and their risks and benefits
  • Understanding of what influences successful tender writing within a university context
  • Knowledge of tender writing fundamentals, including tips and tricks.

Please note that this session will be recorded and the recording possibly uploaded as online training.
