Event description

Children learn from nature; explore permaculture, ecoarts & bushcraft skills; and have outdoor fun at our 8-session Earth Kids homeschool program, running each term in 2024.

The Term 1 program runs on Wednesday mornings, from January 31st to March 20th, 2024.

Earth Kids is all about supporting children to learn from and with the natural world - in a fun and interactive way. The program supports learning not only in Science, but also English, Mathematics, the Arts and more.

The program is for children aged 6 to 12 years. Parents can choose to drop children or stay with the group.

The hours are from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm each day (drop off/arrive from 9.15 am and pick up until 12.45 pm). On the final day, there is an afternoon gathering and shared lunch with parents and families from 12 pm - 1 pm.

The activities differ according to the season and may include:

• Gardening – planting, harvesting, composting, bush tucker and learning about seasonal changes; exploring what's flowering or fruiting at the farm (and tasting what is fruiting!)

• Earth connection – expanding the senses, wandering, nature journaling and doing other activities to support understanding of the web of life and the elements that all life is made of.

• Indigenous understanding – storytelling, cultural sharing.

• Bushcraft - building shelters, making string, making campfires.

• Ecoarts – creativity using natural materials.

• And more - Including cooking from food that has been harvested from the farm, games and free play.

More information about the program is available in the Parents and Guardians Handbook, which can be found at https://www.nscf.org.au/home/l...
