Textile Conservation Advice Day at Fabrik with Mary Jose
Event description
Bring in your favourite textiles to get advice from Textile Conservator, Mary Jose from Fabric of Life.
At this intimate session we will hold a discussion about each textile around a central table in an informal question and answer format. Mary will advise on how to conserve your textile if necessary and also share her expertise on how to safely store and display your textiles.
Many of us have textiles in our lives that have been passed down through families, collected while travelling or even things we have made ourselves. They can represent a diversity of cultures, regions and historical time periods. Professional conservation enables objects of beauty, interest, sentimental value and cultural significance to be enjoyed by present and future generations.
Textiles could include Asian ikats, weavings and batiks, samplers, embroidery, tapestry, flags and banners, furniture, ecclesiastical textiles, curtains, wedding dresses, christening gowns, militaria, uniforms and vintage costume.
Fabric of Life has provided specialist textile conservation services throughout Australia and internationally since 1995 to help people preserve and display their treasured textiles.
We aim to accommodate 12, 10-minute textile show-and-tell format conversations. The order of which will be decided by order of arrival on the day. Should we not reach 12 bookings, the session will still proceed but may be shortened as a result.
After each textile has been shown and packed away, cups of tea and coffee plus simple refreshments will be served during an informal question time.
