Our hands are an extension of our heart. The way we touch, how we feel, what we create. The hands express what the heart already knows.
Touch is my primary love language. I just can't get enough touch in my life. I love receiving and giving touch. At times, I feel touch deprived and have had an increasing amount of people sharing that they did too over the past 4 years. I've been wondering if it was a common thing and through my meandering found an interesting study stating that:
- 54% of people said they didn’t have enough touch in their lives
- Consent and lack of social interaction – the two main reasons provided for why we don’t touch enough.
What has become obvious to me reading this study is a need for:
- better attunement to one's own boundaries which, in turn, allows for a better attunement with and understanding of others
- learning how to ask for what one wants, through connecting to one's body more deeply
- acquiring effective communications tools and learning to be OK receiving a no so that it doesn't become an obstacle for asking to give or receive touch
After drawing these conclusions, I decided to create the Art of Devotional Touch Lab.
The container of this Lab will be structured around 3 pillars:
Embodied Boundaries Exploration:
- Cultivate awareness of boundaries as a giver and a receiver
- Cultivate respect for boundaries as a giver and a receiver- Practice asking for what you want
The different qualities of Touch Exploration:
- Dive into a series of devotional touch exercises designed to explore different qualities of touch
- Explore your personal preferences in terms of receiving touch at this time and empower yourself to ask for the type of touch you want to receive
Devotional Touch Lab Exploration:
- Explore the power of devotion as the offering of yourself, your heart, your gifts to another in a moment
- Dive into creating a sacred space and container as the giver
- Enjoy an experience curated by the giver and receiver. Everyone will get the opportunity to give and receive
Notes:
- This is not a nude or erotic workshop, it is a space focused on cultivating meaningful connections through touch.
- Feel free to attend with a friend or partner, or join us individually and be paired up with a new friend for the exercises.
- There will be a Safety Angel (or more depending on number of attendees) should you need support throughout the event. If something arises during the event for which you need support, please be self-responsible and approach them
Who is your facilitator?
My name is Marania. I'm a trauma informed holistic health practitioner who is passionate about supporting people to come home to their bodies and embrace all parts of themselves.My work incorporates diverse, complementary modalities from various traditions ranging from Yoga, Pranayama to Bodywork, Energywork, Sacred spaces, Womb Health and Sensual Embodied Dance.
