Event description

Join us for morning tea at the Liwik Barring Landscape Conservation Area for a Walk & Talk with our Parks Victoria ranger. Learn about this important conservation area, it's history and management and the latest release of the endangered Leadbeater Possum. Discover more about the goat-conventional biomass reduction trial and other innovative native revegetation strategies.

Experience two plots along the Birrarung where goats are present and one where goats are totally excluded to highlight pros and cons of different management approaches. Children will have the opportunity to see the goats in action and ask questions.

This event is being hosted by Parks Vic, Melbourne Water and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Please note: The track is a flat gravel path and accessible to people in a wheelchair, however, may be muddy depending on the weather. There are no public toilets at the site. Closest public toilets are in Yarra Junction. Limited drinking water will be provided so we recommend you bring your own water bottles.

Accessibility: We cannot guarantee wheelchair or pram accessibility. Riverfest welcomes everyone—we’re committed to making our events accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities. If you have accessibility needs and require support to attend, please email carolyn.tate@yarrariver.org.au

About Riverfest

This event is part of the 2025 Birrarung Riverfest. Celebrate our river at one of 60+ events hosted over three weeks from 6–28 September. Whether you enjoy riverside walks, cleanups, creative workshops or paddling adventures, there's something for everyone at Riverfest. Riverfest is presented by the Yarra Riverkeeper Association.
Check out the full Riverfest program here.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Yarra Riverkeeper Association acknowledges that the lands and waterways of the Yarra, Birrarung catchment, are the unceded territories of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung and Bunurong peoples. We pay respect to Traditional Owners, who have, and continue, to care for Country. We acknowledge that the river now called Yarra has always been known as the Birrarung by its custodians.
