Event description

Discover how to develop your own writer's voice and master the art of character perspective.

Learn how to harness the often elusive power of voice in your writing, and how to identify and develop you and your characters' own distinctive and personal tone.

You'll also find out more about the different types of narration points-of-view (or POVs), from first-person to second-person, third-person and their variants, and their impacts on and uses for your storytelling.

Learning outcomes

As part of this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about voice and how to discover your own writer's voice.
  • Understand the different perspectives (point of view) in writing and how they affect your characters and your narrative.
  • Discover how voice and perspective work together to create a compelling story that readers will love.
  • Gain tools for your "writer's toolbox".

Format

This is an in-person workshop with a focus on writing craft; it will be held at State Library of Queensland, and is suitable for writers of all levels and writing backgrounds.
