Learn the basics of watercolour painting. The course will cater to individual experience levels, needs and expectations of each person.

Come and enjoy the colourful, fluid, free flowing properties of watercolour painting and see what you can create with this beautiful medium.

What will be covered in this course?

The 8-week course will cover a variety of subject matter and techniques including:

  • dry brush
  • wet on wet
  • wet on dry
  • masking
  • salt use

Students will explore the work of traditional and contemporary watercolour artists and in doing so respond creatively in their own artmaking.

By the end of this course students will:

Have learnt the basics of watercolour and feel confident in working with the medium.

TIME: Friday mornings 9.30 am – 12.30 pm

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Good quality watercolour brushes: 

Large “mop”, 2 or 3 rounds and flat brushes sizes 1, 6 and 12, rigger brush.

Watercolour Paint:  

High quality paint, preferably in tubes. Suggested brands, Art Spectrum, Windsor and Newton, Derivan.

Colours: 

  • Red
  • Crimson
  • Lemon Yellow
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • French Ultramarine Blue
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Raw Umber
  • Paynes Grey

Watercolour Paper: 

Good quality 300GSM medium or medium rough, minimum A3. Can be in a pad.

Other materials: 

  • Masking Fluid 
  • Charcoal, willow and compressed 
  • Watercolour pencil, grey or soft blue
  • Kneadable eraser
  • Plastic or plate palette 
  • A5 visual arts diary 
  • Water container
  • Paper towel 
  • Masking tape
  • Cosmetic natural sponge

ABOUT THE TUTOR 

Noela Wood is a qualified Visual Arts teacher with 28 years of experience in both State and Private schools as well as conducting adult classes at Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga Galleries.
